Uganda records 2nd coronavirus death


The Ministry of Health has confirmed the second COVID-19 death.

The deceased, an 80-year-old female, was a resident of Mengo, Kisenyi III in Kampala.

She was admitted at Platinum Hospital on Friday, 24th July, 2020 at 5:00pm and later referred to Mengo Hospital.

Upon admission at Mengo Hospital she presented with symptoms consistent to COVID-19 which include: cough, fever, chest pain and difficulty in breathing.

She later passed on at 6:30pm.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.

The Mengo hospital team immediately notified the Ministry of Health and Kampala City Council Authority through the normal channels.

Post mortem samples were analyzed both at Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) and Makerere University Laboratories and confirmed for SARS-COV-2.

The contact tracing and listing process have been initiated.

In the same vein, twelve (12) new COVID-19 cases were confirmed Sunday.

Out of the twelve (12) confirmed cases; one (1) is a truck driver who arrived via Mirama Hills.

Seven (7) are contacts to previously confirmed cases; three (3) from Tororo, two (2) from Mbale, one (1) from Kampala and one (1) from Isingiro.

One (1) returnee arrived from Kenya.

Regarding the alerts, one (1) is from Amuru District and two (2) are from Kampala of which one passed on.

Fifteen (15) foreign truck drivers (6 Kenyans, 6 Tanzanians, 1 Congolese, 1 Ethiopian and 1 Somali) tested positive for COVID-19 at the border points of entry and their entry into the country was not permitted.
