Members of Parliament have complained about salary deductions at the New Vision newspaper.
During Wednesday plenary, MPs Lilly Adong and Margaret Rwabushaija said this was happening inspite of the paper getting a Covid-cash boost from the Government.
Finance State Minister David Bahati said he had sought an explanation from the management.
He was reportedly told that the paper’s revenue had dipped.
Bahati said his ministry is studying the situation.
Adong wondered why New Vision would reduce the remuneration and salary of workers as a result of COVID19UG yet it’s a Government body.
According to Bahati, the Company has had a shortfall in terms of sales as a result of COVID19 but government is working on possible solutions of the matter.
Earlier, Speaker Rebecca Kadaga urged Parliament to take an interest on the economic impact of the Covid19 pandemic to Uganda.
She said businesses have collapsed; the tourism industry is almost obliterated hence need to look at the possibility for a rescue package.
The Committee on National Economy should invite the private sector and other key stakeholders so we tackle this matter and find solutions, Kadaga pointed out.
