President Museveni has asked Members of Parliament to support him in his quest to raise salaries for scientists.
“We are going to start making it here by supporting groups like Quality Chemicals,” he said Friday while presiding over Labour Day celebrations at State House Entebbe.
“You members of parliament, support my idea of paying the scientists first.”
Museveni said in the world of Coronavirus, he has not seen any administrator or clerk there.
“We are mishandling our scientists, these people must be paid first and I am tired of begging.”
He said when the dam [Nalubale] was blocked, it was engineers there and maybe the rumour mongers, the media.
“If you want your country to stabilize, let us stabilize our scientists, these people can do a lot of work,” he said.
“When the dam was going to break, I didn’t see you going to read Shakespeare from there.”
Museveni said the science teachers should be paid more.
“These scientists have private clinics because they aren’t paid well. I want us to solve that issue.”
President Museveni has said the country is making its own weapons and other things it requires as it shakes off adverse effects of coronavirus.
“On the side of shelter we are doing well, we are manufacturing our own cement.
For defence weapons, Museveni said they have started manufacturing these and are going to rely on themselves.
“Very soon we may require people to put on masks, companies like Nytil are already making these.”
