General Major Christian Songe Tshiwewe is the new Commander of the Congo Republican Guard.
President Félix Tshisekedi appointed General Songe on Wednesday April 22, 2020.
The order for his appointment was read on national television by the spokesman for the head of state, Kasongo Mwema Yamba-Yamba.
The new commander of the Republican Guard will be aided by Brigadier-General Tshitambwe, who will be in charge of operations, and Brigadier-General Ephraïm Kabikizi, who will take care of administration and logistics.
He replaces General Ilunga Kampete, who was under European Union (EU) sanctions.
