A total of 1,126 samples tested NEGATIVE for COVID-19 on Saturday.
The Health ministry says 837 samples were from truck drivers at border points.
Other 289 samples were from individuals under institutional quarantine and contacts to confirmed cases.
Confirmed cases of COVID-19 stand at 55 in Uganda.
Health minister Jane Ruth Aceng says of these, 20 have recovered while 35 are active cases.
“Please note that this is a cumulative number comprising recoveries,” she said in her address on Saturday.
To-date, a total of 2,878 samples from truck drivers have been screened and tested, of these, 1 Ugandan truck driver tested positive, while the other two were from Kenya and Tanzania respectively.
Screening and testing truck drivers is ongoing across the 53 PoEs .
She said two mobile PCR laboratories have been procured and will be received in the country today, Sunday 19th April and officially commissioned by the Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda.
They will be deployed at the congested border points to quicken testing and return of results.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, the ministry released part of the donations of 200 trays of eggs for health workers that are working tirelessly to ensure duty coverage despite working longer shifts, they remain resilient to serve us all.
The Kabaka of Buganda Official donated another consignment worth UGX 100,000,000 to the ministry including handwash soap & other PPE to medical staff.
This comes after donating the first UGX 100,000,000 Cheque and 100 bags (each 50Kgs) of food relief.
