The Health ministry Permanent Secretary, Diana Atwine, Friday commissioned fumigation at Nakawa market.
This is one of the measures to prevent Malaria during the on-going lockdown, as market vendors sleep in the market at night.
This exercise will take place in all markets in Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono.
“The chemicals are safe and not hazardous. The team will ensure that all foods are covered to avoid contamination of the chemicals,” she said.
The fumigation will target bushes and stagnant water around the markets.
The Permanent Secretary, Diana Atwine, received a donation of over 60,000 eggs from Biyinzika Poultry Ltd and UgaChick in support of the COVID-19 response.
These eggs were immediately dispatched to Naguru RRH, Mulago, Kawempe and Kiruddu Hospitals for the health workers.
The World Islamic Call Society of Uganda has donated 54 bags of maize flour to support the COVID-19 response in Uganda.
On behalf of the National Task Force, Atwine also received Essential medical equipment comprising of; patient beds, suction machines, nebulizer, PPE and pulse oxymeter.
This will be dispatched to the COVID-19 isolation unit at Entebbe Grade B Hospital.
State Ministers for Health in charge of Primary Health Care, Moriku Joyce and General Duties, Hon. Robinah Nabbanja received a Cheque of UGX 20M from Escorts Pharmaceuticals to support the COVID-19 response.
The Minister for Health, Jane Ruth Aceng, received UGX 80M from Mantra and 10 motorcycles donated by MAC EA/ Isuzu to support the COVID-19 response.
Mac East Africa is the authorized distributor of Isuzu motor vehicles in Uganda.
They donated UGX 80 million to support COVID-19 respond.
Mantra motorbike East Africa Limited, the authorized distributor of Hero motorbikes in Uganda, donated 10 motorcycles for the response.
