Members of Parliament have expressed concern regarding the manner in which the food relief by government is being conducted.
This was during Tuesday plenary presided over by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.
They expect the leader of Government Business in Parliament also Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda to explain on the floor of the august house.
The Leader of Opposition in Parliament Hon Betty Aol urged the government to exercise fairness and to consider other districts other than Kampala and Wakiso.
Hon Mwiru Paul demanded for an explanation from government on how the contracts to supply food relief was given to specific and individual suppliers (citing Aponye Uganda who supplied flour).
He has wondered whether the suppliers were predetermined from the start.
“We also want an explanation from government as to why they did not do as we agreed on the issue of food distribution and what they are going to do about the rest of Uganda,” Kadaga said.
She noted that this matter is not about Kampala and Wakiso but about the people of Uganda who are also in the same position.
Hon. Syda Bbumba called upon government to consider revitalizing the construction of food reserves like silos as a midterm and long-term plan to address disaster preparedness.
She says that this will go a long way to ensure that there food security in the Country.
