Kisoro priest arrested for defying Museveni

Rev. Fr. John Bazimenyera, a priest in Kisoro district of South Western Uganda, has been arrested for defying coronavirus ban on church worship.

Fr. Bazimenyera is currently being detained at Kisoro police station.

This comes after President Museveni issued directives banning religious gatherings and closing both church and Mosque.

The Mutolere Dean was found holding a short mass [of more than 10 people] at Gisoro Catholic parish.

Fr Bazimenyera says that when he arrived at the Church from Voice of Muhabura studios for morning prayers, he met a group of people who requested for prayers.

He says he then opened one entrance and held prayers for the about 40 people.

A security team led by UPDF’s 35th Commanding officer, Nelson Bataringaya, based in Kisoro district arrested the priest for defying the president’s directives.

He was midway the service before Holy Communion.

First case

Health minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng confirmed the first case of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Saturday night.

A 36-year-old Ugandan male who arrived from Dubai aboard Ethiopian Airlines had a temperature was 38.7.

This prompted the health teams to isolate him at the airport for further follow up.

He was evacuated to Entebbe Grade B Hospital for further follow up where a nasal swab was taken for analysis.
