The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) clarifies that no meeting by either the Central Executive Committee (CEC) or any other Party organ was held on March 13th to discuss the postponement of the 2021 General elections as circulated by falsified social media groups.

The CEC meeting held on the said date at Mosa Court Hotel under the Chairmanship of the 1st National Vice Chairperson Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo was convened purposely to discuss two items:

The proposed regulations and guidelines for our forthcoming internal elections.

The Party Electoral Roadmap in preparation for the National Grassroot Elections of the special interest groups (Youth, Elderly & PWDs).

“Please note that NRM, as a Tested and Trusted Political Party has always subjected itself to elections every after 5 years and we are NOT scared of any elections as alleged by such self-seekers,” said Rogers Mulindwa, Senior Manager Information, Communication & Public Relations, NRM.

“We are the custodians of democracy in Uganda and we shall never divert from a Constitutional lane. We are currently carrying out a countrywide Membership Registration Exercise as part of the long process towards having free & fair primaries. We shall as before, field candidates at all levels from villages to the top.”

He added: “Therefore treat such social media publications against NRM as baseless only intended to earn sympathy to the struggling opposition.”
