FDC supporters burn flammables in Jinja town

Sporadic fire outbreaks are reported in Jinja town where Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] supporters are protesting against security highhandedness.

On Wednesday morning, the army, police and Local Defence Unit [LDU] personnel raided Sun Set Hotel and arrested opposition figure Kizza Besigye.

His aide Ronald Muhinda says Besigye is currently held at the notorious Nalufenya Prison.

Police began by engaging him and his supporters in Bugiri District on Tuesday.

On Wednesday morning, he was supposed to address a rally in Kazimingi market located behind the Taxi Park.

Police sniffed him out of Paradise Hotel, an affiliate of Sunset Hotel, where he spent the night and arrested him.

Police led by the Kiira Regional Police Commander, Paul Nkore, blocked his exit using squad/patrol cars and road spikes.

A UPDF truck from Gadaffi barracks was brought to tow away his vehicle.
