Military has broken into Sun Set Hotel International in Jinja town and impounded opposition figure Kizza Besigye’s car.
His aide Ronald Muhinda said Ash Wednesday started with a hotel siege in Jinja town.
After a standoff that took hours, the army invaded the hotel and reportedly vandalised Besigye’s vehicle Reg No. UAN 661V.
The soldiers then clamped it down and towed it to Nalufenya detention facility.
“Last night Police almost broke into his room but management protested the decision in a meeting where Museveni Police Commanders threatened to close down the Hotel,” Muhinda said.
He added: “Management simply asked Jinja RPC to produce a search warrant and they will allow them search the Hotel to get Besigye.”
According to him, the hotel had tourists in it.
On Tuesday, former Leader of Opposition Wafula Oguttu and Bugiri Municipality Mayor Luba were arrested and detained after Besigye entered the district announced.
Muhinda said fired bullets and teargas at FDC supporters who were waiting for the opposition figure to address them.
