Garang widow: let nation building begin

The widow of South Sudan founding father Dr John Garang has called for tireless efforts in nation building saying peace has at last come.

She was speaking Saturday during the swearing in ceremony of four vice presidents at J1 palace in the capital Juba.

The ceremony got underway with Archbishop Justin Badi Arama presenting President salva Kiir and each of the four VPs with pictures of Pope Francis kissing their feet in a dramatic gesture in April last year.

The oath was administered by Chief Justice Chan Reech

VP Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior shared a hug with President Kiir infront of other vice presidents Taban Deng Gai, Dr. Riek Machar and James Wani Igga.

In her speech, Rebecca said: “You have desired peace and now you have it.”

She added: “Let the nation building begin with you in your house and your neighborhood.

The representative for the UN Secretary General David Shearer said UN and the international community need to be resetting engagement with the R-TGoNU.

“UNMISS is not going anywhere but we hope that we will be moving onto a phase of development,” Shearer noted.
