Members of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) led by the Chairperson NRM Workers League, Mr James Tweheyo together with a team from the Party Secretariat Tuesday visited the Kiira Motors Vehicle Production facility construction site to assess the progress.
The construction planned to take place in phases is undertaken by the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) on a two and a half year tenure.
The site was handed over to NEC on 18th January 2019, who then deployed security and commenced work on 11th February 2019 with completion slated for June 2021.
Upon completion, the plant is expected to create over 15,000 jobs both directly and indirectly.
The plant sitting on 100 acres of land in Jinja district will include a 6,000 square metre multi-purpose warehouse, 1,200 square metre plant office space, vehicle test facilities, vehicle park yard, storm water channel and an energy centre.
According to the Site Engineer Mr Alfred Nuwamanya progress of construction now stands at 52% completion.
