Police arrests gunman who shot Bugiri Imam

The main suspect in the murder of Sheikh Mutumba Masudi of Bugiri has been arrested by police flying squad teams.

Inquiries into the matter are ongoing and progressing well, police said promising to avail more details.

Mutumba, 60, the imam of Iwemba Masjid Noor, Iwemba Sub County Bugiri district, was killed following a land wrangle with Koita Suleiman, also of Busimba village.

The deceased won a Civil suit in Bugiri High Court, which was appealed in Jinja High Court and judgement was due to be read on the 20/02/2020.

The perpetrators held a meeting in their home and planned the murder, well in advance.

They hired a boda boda rider who transported the lone gunman to Sheikh Mutumba’s home.

The suspect called the Sheikh out, and shot him once to the head killing him instantly.

Police has since arrested 8 suspects majority of one family including the boda boda rider who transported the killers to and from the murder scene.
