The threatened MPs include; Allan Sewanyana [Makindye West], Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu [Kyadondo East], Kasibante Moses [Rubaga North], Mugume Roland [Rukungiri Municipality], Latif Ssebagala [Kawempe North], Theodore Sekikuubo [Lwemiyaga County] and Francis Zaake Butebi [Mityana Municipality].

The notices came at a time MPs are collecting signatures to censure Security minister Gen Elly Tumwine.

“I am going to parliament to inform the house about this incident. Hon members who are on this list have called me that even in their areas they have received similar threats like Hon Kasibante Moses,” Ssewanyana said.

The deputy police spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan area, Luke Owoyesigyire, said police has started investigations into the matter.

Death threats against MPs

Last month, opposition MPs threatened to sleep in the chambers of parliament over continued assassination attempts on their lives.

The Leader of Opposition Betty Aol Ocan said Hon. Katusabe Godfrey (FDC) was assaulted and tortured by police undressed, humiliated and robbed of his money equivalent to 91,000 US Dollars.

Over five MPs reported that their lives are under threat/ or have been threatened before.

In 2017, homes of MPs Ssewanya and Bobi Wine in Makindye and Magere respectively, were attacked with grenades.

The attack came a week after two hand grenades were hurled and exploded at MP Kasibante’s home.

In 2018, a document bearing 16 people on the assassin list was reportedly dropped at Kasibante’s home.

The list contained Buganda premier Peter Charles Mayiga, Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, and Kampala Minister Beti Kamya.

Others on the list included; Sheikh Matovu (a Muslim leader), Sadam Lukwago (a city herbalist), Siraji Bakaleke (the embattled former Kampala South Regional Police Commander) and Patrick Onyango (Deputy Police spokesperson). Also on the list are Mukyala Bucyana, Muhammad Nsereko (Kampala Central MP), Sheikh Kibaate (deputy supreme Mufti), Erias Lukwago (Kampala Lord Mayor) and Prince Nakibinge (Buganda prince/ Muslim leader) and Kasibante.
