Uganda has released 13 Rwandan nationals who have been detained in the country’s jail cells for various crimes.

The group was handed over to Rwanda Tuesday as sign of commitment to implement the agreement that was signed in August in Luanda, Angola to ease tensions between Uganda and Rwanda.

Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa who presided over the Kampala city handover, said the move was aimed at facilitating the normalisation of relations between the two states.

He said Uganda expects Rwanda to reciprocate the goodwill gesture by addressing the concerns that Uganda has raised, including the Ugandans still incarcerated in in Rwanda, within the Luanda framework and which require immediate attention.
