Lupita Nyong’o mourns Nikita Pearl: she was sweet, warm & talented

Lupita Nyong’o is mourning the death of Nikita Pearl Waligwa, a Ugandan actress who Saturday succumbed to a brain tumour at TMR hospital in Naalya, Kampala.

Lupita, 36, remembered her “Queen of Katwe” on-screen daughter Nikita on her Instagram as sweet, warm and talented.

Unfortunately, she passed away at the age of 15.

“It is with great sadness that I post about the passing of Nikita Waligwa, the sweet, warm, talented girl whom I worked with on the film, Queen Of Katwe,” wrote the Hollywood actress.

“She played Gloria with such vibrancy. In her real life she had the enormous challenge of battling brain cancer.”

Nikita as initially diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2016, and she made a recovery in 2017.

The tumour returned in 2019 consequently claiming her life.

“My thoughts and prayers are with her family and community as they come to terms with having to say goodbye so soon,” Lupita concluded.

Lupita Amondi Nyong’o is a Kenyan-Mexican actress.

The daughter of Kenyan politician Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, Nyong’o was born in Mexico City, where her father was teaching, and was raised in Kenya from the age of one.
