Nikita Pearl Waligwa who starred as ‘Gloria’ in a Disney’s movie “Queen of Katwe” has passed on.
The 15-year-old Ugandan actress succumbed to a brain tumour on Saturday.
She had been admitted at TMR International Hospital in Naalya following a long brain cancer battle.
Last year, a poster circulated seeking contributions for funds to ensure Nikita gets treatment for the brain tumour.
The family was seeking $2000 to take her to India.
Nikita was first diagnosed in 2016 and she had surgery in April 2016.
Shortly after the surgery, Nikita was diagnosed with cancer and she underwent radiotherapy in July 2016.
That’s when she acted in the 2016 American biographical drama film ‘Queen of Katwe’ about the life of Phiona Mutesi, a chess player living in a slum in Katwe.
In February 2017, when she went for a review, she was declared cancer free.
In 2019, Nikita was diagnosed with another brain tumour which claimed her life.
