The Commander Special Forces Command Maj Gen James Birungi has hailed the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF)/ National Resistance Army (NRA) for the discipline which has brought forth positive fruits demonstrated both in Uganda and outside.
Maj Gen Birungi made the remarks while representing the Commander Air Force Lt Gen Charles Lutaya at Tarehe sita Celebrations for Air Force and Special Forces Command at Air Force Headquarters Entebbe.
Gen James Birungi applauded the Commander in Chief of the UPDF, HE the President Gen YK Museveni and other patriotic gallant soldiers living and dead for having initiated a good heroic vision and struggle that brought the current government in power.
He said that the patriotism and discipline of the NRA/ UPDF and NRM was and still is the yard stick to the winning all battles UPDF has fought.
Gen Birungi congratulated all the UPDF fraternity upon this anniversary and also applauded the UPDF strategic leadership and guidence led by Chief of Defence Forces .
The commander SFC further applauded the good working relationships and support by the civilians whom he called the Masters to UPDF noting that without the civilians UPDF has no base.
Gen Birungi hailed the UPDF spouses for the great job they do in supporting their husbands and keeping homes during their absence.
He pledged that the army (husbands) shall also commit to provide for them everything possible and within their means.
The Deputy Commander Air Force Brig Tumusiime Katsigazi while flagging off the route match congratulated the UPDF family upon marking 39th Anniversary, citing that the decision made on 06th Feb 1981 was the origin to fight poor governance that had made Uganda to be called a failed state.
He said celebrations should not be just celebrations but must help the current army and all citizens to reflect where Uganda has come from where it is where it is going.
“Always bear in mind that the peace we have, the development, the security are products of those heroes who shed their blood,” emphasised Brig Katsigazi.
He called upon the Commissariat to always propel and promote ideology to the troops for historical purposes and continuity.
Gen Kastigazi requested leaders to be exemplary in planting new “trees” about the struggle and its intent such even when we not there the intent continues.
“Be examples to the young generation in the Forces, do your work, be ideologically upright and maintain discipline if you are to develop Uganda.”
The Entebbe Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon Rosemary Tumusiime, acknowledged the excellent work done by the commander in Chief, his restless efforts to improve the quality of life of Ugandans through his visionary leadership and entire UPDF family for being professional and showing higher degree of discipline and service before self.
“The fruits of the struggle are peace, stability, social economic transformation empowerment of the population especially the special interest groups, education for all, improved health service delivery and export of UPDF to other nations for peace keeping mission are what we celebrate today and should guard it jealously,” she stressed.
She concluded by appreciating the UPDF for their sleepless nights by ensuring that the population is secure, the general cleaning done in Entebbe, the medical services accessed freely, the schools “our children” go to which used be a different case with the previous armies.
Hon Tumusiime appealed to Ugandans to focus on the milestones achieved during the leadership of president Museveni and support him fully for a better Uganda.
The function was graced by the RDC Entebbe Hajji Njuki, NRM C/man Entebbe Stephen Kabuye, the deputy mayor, commanders, other invited dignitaries officers and men of SFC and Air Force, Air Force secondary school, the Local defence units in Entebbe, Uganda Police.
There was also lots of entertainment from SFC and Air Force spouses, Air Force cultural group and launching of the Teakondo club at Airforce coloured the function.
