People Power spokesperson, Joel Ssenyonyi, says he will contest for Nakawa Division MP seat in 2021 general elections.
Ssenyonyi announced his bid on Sunday while attending a sports gala in Kulambiro-Nakawa Division.
At the gala held at East High School in Kisaasi, Ssenyonyi told football fans that his boss Bobi Wine challenged him to take up leadership.
“He [Bobi Wine] said we are sending him for presidency but there are no roots yet. By roots, he meant local councils and parliament.”
He added: “I am a resident of Bukoto II Parish. Thus I have decided to come out and become the roots Bobi Wine spoke of by standing for Nakawa Division MP seat.”
This seat is currently occupied by Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] party member, Hon Micheal Kabaziguruka.
Time for youth is now
The former TV personality who was delighted to be part of the event, called on the youth to rise to the occasion and stand for various youth council positions in the upcoming youth elections in April.
“The zeal for change which the youth exhibited was inspiring,” he said.
On Saturday, February 1, 2020, Ssenyonyi and his team did “Bulungi bwansi” or General cleaning in Butabika parish -Nakawa Division.
He said it was nice to see residents get actively involved in cleaning up their area.
“We were joined by local leaders of all political shades. The residents later prepared lunch, and we discussed a number of issues together.”
The spokesperson of the Robert Kyagunlanyi aka Bobi Wine-led People Power Movement left his news anchoring job at Serena based NTV to join politics.
Last year, the 32-year-old set tongues wagging when he confessed that he was still a virgin.
A law student, Ssenyonyi used to be a talkshow host at the Nation Media Group television.
