Finance minister Matia Kasaija says the NRM National Executive Committee [NEC] decided to endorse lining up behind candidates as a voting method to eliminate monetisation of politics.
Kasaija was Saturday speaking at Namboole stadium during the NRM delegates conference.
“We are here to bring the party leaders together. Today, I am seeing people I have not seen for like three years,” he said.
“Yesterday during NEC, we decided that in party primaries, we should line up behind candidates.”
He said a secret ballot was becoming expensive for the party.
“The issue of ‘I have been cheated’ will be no more because everybody will see. Results will be instant.”
He said elections have been monetized and this is a very dangerous trend.
“We shall end up getting a bad leader simply because they have money. Leadership is a missionary job.”
Speaking at Namboole, President Museveni said that that they considered voting by lining up behind candidates for NRM Party elections as medicine for cheating.
He said this is transparent and leaves no arguments about who won.
