The President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Gabriela Cuevas, is in Uganda on the invitation of Speaker Rebecca Kadaga to attend the celebration of 130 years of IPU.
She was Wednesday received by Nakapiripirit Woman MP Hon. Esther Anyakun, who seats on the IPU Executive Committee.
Ms. Gaby will also attend the NRM Liberation Day celebrations that are scheduled to be held this Sunday, 26 January 2020 in Ibanda district.
On Thursday Speaker Kadaga met and exchanged gifts with Gady.
Kadaga gave her Ugandan coffee and tea and her photo book.
Gaby praised Uganda for opening up Parliament; “the only way to restore people’s trust in politics is opening doors, is being truly inclusive”.
“Congratulations for your communication strategy, for your app (Bungeni mobile app. launched on Tuesday), for taking the time for bringing Parliament to our constituencies.”
At the stall of the Office of the Leader of Opposition in Parliament Hon Betty Ocan Aol, Gaby was presented with another gift.
She later toured Parliament’s day care centre where MPs and staff have their children taken care of by specialised child minders.
The mothers are able to breastfeed the children there during breaks from their duties.
