MPs ‘sleep’ in parliament over death threats

Opposition Members of Parliament are spending Tuesday night in the chambers of parliament over continued assassination attempts on their lives.

The Leader of Opposition raised a concern during plenary chaired by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.

She said Hon. Katusabe Godfrey (FDC) was assaulted and tortured by police in his constituency on 13th January 2020.

The LoP said they will sleep at Parliament tonight if the Ministers responsible do not address the issue.

Hon. Katusime Atkins said he was undressed, humiliated by police and robbed of his money equivalent to 91,000 US Dollars which he had at the time.

He wants his money back and the Officers brought to book because they are own.

Over five MPs reported that their lives are under threat/ or have been threatened before.

These include: Hon. Katusabe Godfrey Atkins (FDC), Hon. Nantanba Aida (Ind.), Hon. Winfred Kiiza (FDC) and Hon. Miggade Robert (NRM).

Speaker Kadaga adjourned the house to Wednesday at 2pm.
