Former Lwengo District Woman Member of Parliament Gertrude Nakabira Lubega is reported dead.
Nakabira succumbed to cancer on Sunday at St Francis Hospital in Nsambya.
Isaac Ssejoba, the former MP for Bukoto Mid-West constituency, told Uganda Radio Network, Nakabira has been sick for a period of close to five years.
She got worse over the last three months and has been receiving treatment at Nsambya hospital.
Arrangements are being made to ensure that her body is transported from Nsambya hospital to her home in Lwengo district.
Nakabira represented Lwengo district in the ninth parliament as the first Woman MP, from 2011 to 2016, when the district had just been carved out of the traditional Masaka district.
In 2016 general elections, she contested for the Bukoto South Constituency seat which she lost to the incumbent MP Mohammad Muyanja Mbabali.
From 2005 to 2010, she served as the Sembabule District Education Officer.
