The biggest threat of the world is the young generation, Security minister Gen Elly Tumwine on Thursday.
“The young have been deprived from thinking together because of some innovation called WhatsApp,” emphasised Tumwine who was speaking at the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region held at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
WhatsApp Messenger is a freeware, cross-platform messaging and Voice over IP service owned by Facebook, Inc.
It allows users to send text messages and voice messages, make voice and video calls, and share images, documents, user locations, and other media.
It has revolutionised communication across the world and taken the young generation by storm.
According to the General, the young generation nolonger thinks with their heads because all their time is spent the social media platform, sharing pictures, gossiping etc.
While interfacing with the region’s heads of intelligence, Tumwine said Africa is now an attraction of all foreign powers and Djibouti is one of the examples because it has very many military bases of super powers.
“If you have any intelligence and it doesn’t be presented to the responsible bodies in time, it ceases to be intelligence because it’s not presented at the right time it is needed,” Tumwine noted.
He added: “I propose that we replace our old ancient education system, and replace it with our cultural African system to avoid being called a truly dominated nation.”
He said the hybrid threats of Africa, the hybrid threats of Uganda and East Africa can only be solved “if we put our heads together and find possible solutions for them”.
According to the minister, the current world situation is not very good for Africa and it hasn’t been good for a long time.
He said in the world, things only happen when people come together and in this world nothing can’t be solved if people come together.
“We spend so much effort on treating just like doctors than spending more time on prevention and management of some of the issues in our region, don’t let things get to crisis yet you can easily alert a colleague to sort issues before they get worse.”
He concluded that the biggest threat of the world is the young generation who have been deprived from thinking together because of some innovation called WhatsApp.
