Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze has urged opposition figure Kizza Besigye to leave 2021 presidential race for young blood like Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.
Nambooze who was Thursday January 2, 2020 appearing on NBS television, said Besigye represents all political opposition who have been in politics in the last decade.
Partly, the People Power movement led by Bobi Wine is built on the need to change the status quo in the opposition, she explained.
She said there is a need for change in opposition as well. “If Besigye doesn’t stand in 2021, he will become the kingmaker.”
“It is normal that the People Power movement come for us before they go to Museveni.”
She said because the opposition has not had the chance to elevate some people into better positions (this space is occupied by NRM), “we shall have a generational conflict”.
In Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] party, Nambooze believes Patrick Oboi Amuriat is likely to remain as the party president.
Last year, Besigye hinted at a possibility of reaching an agreement with Bobi Wine saying they were already in advanced talks.
But towards the end of the year, Besigye maintained he was not going anywhere and was ready to die in the struggle.
Speaking at FDC’s 15th anniversary held at Namboole stadium, Besigye said he would continue fighting against the government of President Museveni until his last day on earth.
