President Museveni has donated Shs100m to The Ebonies: East Africa’s leading stage and TV music and drama Stars.
Museveni attended a concert by the Ebonies in theatre La Bonita on Thursday night.
He was received by Sam Bagenda (Dr. Bbosa) and Gen. Katumba Wamala, also junior Works and Transport minister.
“Before many of you, Bazukulu, were born, Sam Bagenda alias Dr. Bbosa, was already on the silver screen and on stage entertaining Ugandans,” Museveni said.
The president noted that he was honoured to officiate at his show as he marked 33 years of serving Ugandans through talent.
He said with peace ushered in by the NRM, people are bound to exhibit talents in all aspects; preachers will preach, actors will act, artistes will compose and sing, farmers will flourish in fields, herders will tend, everyone will get chance to showcase their God-given talent.
The Ebonies were formed around 1977 as Jimmy Katumba with the Ebonies and continued under that title as a musical drama group until 1990 when several of their members emigrated to the United Kingdom and the United States.
The remaining members became “The Ebonies” and started stage dramas and TV series.
Their leading actor Sam Bagenda aka Dr. Bbosa is a celebrated actor having won several accolades that include actor of the millennium.
