Makerere lecturer, poet Dr. Susan Kiguli shines at ‘Voices of Africa’ Cologne festival

Makerere University’s Dr. Susan Kiguli was recently invited as a guest poet at the 10th anniversary edition of the 2019 Cologne-based project “Voices of Africa”.

The festival was held from 6th to 9th November 2019 in Cologne, Germany under the theme “Crossing Borders – translate, transpose, communicate”.

Dr. Susan Kiguli is an Associate Professor of Literature and former Head, Department of Literature, College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS).

She was among eight authors and experts invited to present at Cologne festival. Others were Sulaiman Addonia, Boubakar Boris Diop, Mukoma Wa Ngugi, Navid Kermani, Sarah Ladipo Manyika, Fiston Mwanza Mujila, and Zukiswa Wanner a.o.

In one of the short videos that captured proceedings at the three-day festival, Dr. Kiguli says, “I am going to read in Luganda and this is very significant for me; it means that I can be visible here and comfortable here,” before she goes on to present a poem.
