Halimah Nakaayi, Uganda’s 800m Gold Medallist at the recently concluded World Athletics Championships in Doha, Tuesday paid tribute to MTN during a courtesy call on the CEO MTN Uganda, Wim Vanhelleputte at Nyonyi Gardens.
Halima said the MTN Marathon has been instrumental to the development of athletics in Uganda.
She acknowledged the role of MTN (through its partnership with the Uganda Athletics Federation’s programmes) in driving the development of athletics in the country.
She was particularly pleased that MTN has taken the Marathon to the regions giving greater opportunity to talent that would otherwise have not gotten a platform to show their potential.
“A lot of good will come out of that investment, so I request you to continue doing these regional races,” she said.
Vanhelleppute pledged MTN’s continued support to the Marathon among other sponsorship initiatives because, “it’s clear that we’re good together and achieve great things in partnerships”.
