Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] Party Vice Chairman Proscovia Salaamu Musumba has reviewed Gender Related Provisions in the Party Constitution and other Policy documents.
In her presentation, she has simplified the relevance of gender mainstreaming and how the framers of the Party Constitution had a well thought analysis of a just society where women and men live in harmony as equals.
She has encouraged Women to focus on holding their positions in society without waiting for mercy from anyone.
The Women’s Conference is in day two at Esella Country Hotel in Kiira-Wakiso.
A number of issues about Gender mainstreaming, equity and Women empowerment are being discussed.
Women are such a special human species that when they are happy, the entire world is always stable and peaceful to live in, Musumba noted.
In the previous elections, Mr. Museveni used to enjoy 88% support in Sebei Sub Region, according to Cheptoris Eunice, District Woman Councillor representing Chesower Sub County at Bukwo District Local Government.
“I want to thank my Party for the tireless efforts at enlightening Ugandans about this rogue regime,” Cheptoris noted.
She went on: “I can assure you that Sebei has greatly changed, in the previous (2016) elections alone, my Party the FDC got 43.4% of the total votes tallied in the Sub region amidst Vote rigging.”
“Museveni had mastered the art of dividing us with our sisters and brothers the Pokots in Amudat, he is a father of divide and rule policy.”
Cheptoris said she was happy that her people have woken up and now the biggest percentage supports change via Forum for Democratic Change and that NRM cannot win Sebei again.
In her remarks, Joyce Juliet Nabbosa Ssebugwawo, Deputy Party President, said the party intended mechanism to increase women political participation and policy influence within and outside the party.
“Fellow Women, at this very moment, as we sit here, women around the world are giving birth, raising children, cooking meals, washing clothes, cleaning houses, planting crops, running companies, running Parties and running countries.”
“True to note, Women are also dying from diseases that should have been prevented or treated. They are watching their children succumb to malnutrition caused by poverty and economic deprivation of the Museveni government.”
She said they are being denied the right to go to school by their own fathers and brothers and also the rogue regime that hasn’t done enough to provide quality education.
“They are being forced into the middle East in what has turned out to be modern slavery, and prostitution it’s you and me through this conference that are going to stand up against such vice, it’s possible and we shall do it.”
She said the ultimate goal of this conference is building the FDC as a gender responsive political party, remember this is a necessary step to playing an effective role to national level gender debates and actions towards addressing gender equality in Uganda.
“I call upon you, Women leaders in your respective capacities, to assume your positions in the competition to finally blow the opponents of equality in this 21st century.”
