Mbarara university student robbed, killed


Mbarara police is on the hunt for unknown people who attacked and killed a student of Mbarara University of Science and Technology [MUST].

Brian Akampurira was first robbed, killed and then his body dumped in a garden in TASO village.

An alumnus of Budo SS, he has been pursuing a Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery at Mbarara University.

According to Rwizi region police spokesperson, Samson Kasasira, on Friday morning at 5:30am Mbarara central police station OC operations received information that a body of unidentified person was found lying in TASO village near a lagoon.

Police detectives rushed to the scene.

A body of a Male adult in his mid-20s was found lying in a garden of beans with marks of serious violence on it.

Akampurira who was in his second year was coming from his aunt’s place before he was ambushed by suspected robbers.

They killed him and took away his phone and other items.

Available information is that the student left his Hostel at 8pm after receiving a phone call from his aunt to take her food at Holy Innocents Hospital Nyamitanga, about 3km away from the university,’’ Mr Kasasira said.

Police believes there was a serious struggle between the victim and the assailants who are still at large.

The body was taken to Mbarara regional referral hospital mortuary for post-mortem as they wait for the parents to take it for burial.
