Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine on Wednesday escaped police arrest in downtown Kampala as security deployed to block his planned independence day concert at One Love Beach in Busabala.
Last night, UPDF soldiers, Military Police, Local Defence Unit – LDUs and Police Field Force Unit (FFU) under the command of the Kampala South regional police commander (RPC), Paul Kakamba and Katwe division police commander (DPC), Frantile Lwamusai, sealed off his home and beach.
While police heavily guarded his Magere home in Wakiso district, Bobi Wine sneaked out and jumped on a boda boda before heading to town.
He was on his way to One Love beach in Busabala where the “Osobola” concert was supposed to take place only to intercepted by police before he reached his destination.
He then engaged in a cat and mouse chase with police downtown Kampala before evading arrest at around Mini Price.
On Tuesday, the Inspector General of Police, Martins Okoth Ochola said Bobi Wine’s concert had been cancelled because his plans fell short of crowd control and evacuation protocols in case of an emergency and adequate security for the big number of revellers.
Police said they could not guarantee the security of revellers as they would be overstretched by the Independence Day celebrations.
