The two brand new Uganda Airlines aircrafts jetted in Monday 7th Oct 2019.
They have been christened 5X KNP to mean Kabalega National Park and 5X KDP for Kidepo National Park.
The last batch of the four Bombardier CRJ900 series will ply regional routes.
And as the norm and tradition of new planes operating commercially at initiation; the bombardiers were welcomed with a water salute, by two firefighting rigs spraying arcs of water, on each side of the taxiway.
The acting CEO Mr. Cornwell Muleya and Board Chairman Mr. Pereza Ahabwe handed over a souvenir to Chief Guest Gen. Katumba Wamala earlier after receiving the new CRJ 900 Aircraft which arrived at Entebbe International Airport this afternoon.
“If you can’t fly on it sell a tomato on it. Sell a watermelon that the cabin crew will use “so let us all make use of this Uganda airlines,” Katumba said.
“These Airlines, as you’ve heard are our properties, they are our sweat, they are our taxes. So let us support our Airline, “let us stop the negative (talk)”.
Katumba thanked the nation at large for the keen interest and love they have shown the Airline.
He said the aircrafts have been fully paid for ‘tekuli banja’ [there is no debt] by the government.
“I am standing here on behalf of the ministry “it is a delight to be part of this flagship project,” he said.
On his part, Board chairman Ahabwe said: “We, as the board, commit our efforts to ensuring that our Cranes stay in the sky.”
He said their growth and success as an airline will facilitate the growth and success of the country, through the promotion of the tourism industry and building relationships between Uganda and other countries.
“We are committed to seeing Uganda Airlines excel in its operations and in the provision of services which fall within the expected international standards.”
