Blogs: how did Congo become a failed state?

Analysis by Alexis Sebatware Byicaza

Based to recently tragic events occurred in Minembwe against Banyamulenge community, South Kivu region, in Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Many peoples asked me the functionality and operations of the government of the DRC, the answer is simple and easy to get its because the DRC it’s failed state.

The fail state is a political body that has disintegrated to a point where basic conditions and responsibilities of a sovereign government no longer functions properly and that’s why exactly the DRC government it is.

The state can also fail if the government loses its legitimacy even if is performing it’s functions properly.

However, as per definition the DRC government fulfill the requirements to be called the failed state because it has central government so weak or ineffective that it has inability or little practical control over much of its territory and non-provision of public services.

Where it has widespread corruption and criminality; the intervention of state and non-state actors; the appearance of refugees and involuntary movements of populations; sharp economic decline; and foreign military intervention can occurs.

A state defined as maintaining a monopoly on the legitimate use of physical forces within its borders. But the DRC government is today dominant of presence of warlords, paramilitary groups, armed gangs, and Islamic terrorists that why I can say that the existence of the state in DRC has become dubious and it becomes failed state.

However, the term means that the state has been rendered ineffective and is not able to enfonce it’s laws uniformly or provide basic goods and services to its citizens because of high crime rates; insurgency; extreme political corruption; an impenetrable and ineffective bureaucracy; judicial ineffectiveness; military interference in politics and cultural situations in which traditional leaders wield more power than the state over certain area.

Today, the insurgency of the extremists tribal armed groups called Mayi Mayi in association with Burundians Red-Tabara rebels are being used by this so called failed state to kill and looting the livestock of Banyamulenge in the South Kivu region of Democratic Republic of Congo.

By support of Foreign countries the rebels attacked Banyamulenge innocents civilians and pose a great threat of genocide massacres in Minembwe.

Therefore, because we have a fail state and central government so weak or ineffective it shows inability to intervene, it intervene in side of rebels attacking civilians.
