Minister Bahati rival taken to police for battering wife

Simpson Mpirirwe, a political rival to Minister David Bahati, has been dragged to police for battering his wife.

Mpirirwe, a resident of Ryakarimira town council, Ndorwa West, Kabale district, is poised to take on Bahati for the area parliamentary seat come 2021 elections.

Mpirirwe is accused of assaulting his ex-wife Emily Mubangizi on 14th of September 2019 while at his rented home in Makanga, Kabale municipality.

The couple had separated for seven years.

Mubangizi returned from Kampala where she has been living to check and greet her children who have been living with their father.

She says when she reached home, Mpirirwe denied her access to the house to greet the children.

When she insisted, Mpirirwe allegedly beat her leaving bruises all over her body.

Kigezi Regional Spokes Person Elly Maate confirmed that a case has been reported at Kabale Police Station and is registered under SD Ref 23/14/2019.

He says police is investigating the matter.
