Police in Elgon region is investigating circumstances under which a local musician Isaac Katoogo aka “Ambassador Wa Yesu” was attacked and nearly crucified.
John Robert Tukei, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, told edge.ug on Tuesday that the Kadongo Kamu singer was attacked by three people Monday evening.
Katoogo, 36, a Muganda by tribe has been living in Mbale town for two years now.
According to ACP Tukei, Katoogo was attacked in Kiteso Cell, Namakwekwe Ward, in Northern Division of Mbale municipality between 9pm and 10pm.
Three unidentified people drove two nails on his mouth at the left hand side.
Tukei said Katoogo is yet to be examined by a police surgeon but can now talk and is not in serious danger.
He told police the assailants didn’t say anything and couldn’t identify any of them.
According to reports, Katoogo was moving with a speaker playing a song he composed for President Museveni.
However, Tukei told edge.ug that they couldn’t verify that version.
They also believe Katoogo who sells herbal medicine could have unsatisfied clients who targeted him.
The singer hails from Kasindi village in Kyaggwe parish Lwengo district.
He becomes the second person to be nailed for associating with the ruling government.
Last month, Baker Kasumba, a resident of Avis Kivvulu in Kawempe division, was attacked near the Northern Bypass flyover in Kalerwe and crucified for wearing a yellow NRM beret.
