A combined force of police and the military has shot and injured a boda boda cyclist during clashes in Mubende district.
The victim Simon Ssentamu, 25, was shot in the stomach on Monday while his colleagues protested against rampant murders of their colleagues and theft of motorcycles in Kasambya Town Council.
He is admitted at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital.
The protesters blocked roads and started breaking into shops and people’s houses prompting security to fired live bullets and teargas canisters.
This did not prevent some hooligans from looting shops and burning others.
The angry riders accused security of doing nothing while their friends are being murdered.
At least three boda -boda cyclists have been killed in the area and their motorcycles stolen in the last three weeks.
Mubende District Police Commander, Martin Okoyo, told media that riot police and soldiers from Mubende army barracks will maintain their presence in the area.
