Uganda’s Ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations Adonia Ayebare has been elected as chair of the African group of permanent representatives at the United Nations (UN).
Ayebare will chair the esteemed Africa Group of Permanent Representatives for the month of September 2019 which also marks the beginning of the 74th Session of the General Assembly.
Africa is once again taking the Presidency of the UN General Assembly.
It is represented by H.E Prof. Tijjani Muhammed Bande, the Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as President of General Assembly.
Meanwhile, Uganda’s Adonia takes over from H.E Omer Mohamed Ahmed Siddig, the Permanent Representative of Sudan.
In his maiden speech, Adonia promised to further strengthen and encourage the continued cordial relations in the African Group in the United Nations to be able to drive the agenda of the “Africa we want” and in achieving Agenda 2063.
Ayebare also pledged the continued support of the Government of the Republic of Uganda in advancing Africa’s priorities, promoting a strong and cohesive African voice at the United Nations through the African Group and looks forward to a fruitful month of September.
