The Leader of Opposition in Parliament Hon. Aol Betty Achan on Tuesday responded to the State of the Nation address 2019 during plenary presided over by deputy Speaker Hon Jacob Oulanyah.
Achan commended the Uganda Cranes whose wonderful performance in the Africa Cup in Cairo 2019 made Uganda proud.
She said land acquisition and ownership continues to face unprecedented instability as agencies for its registration and establishment connive with beneficiaries of ill-gotten wealth and greedy people to rob communities of their land.
According to her, Uganda’s urbanisation is at 4.5% with about 6.0 Million people living in urban centres.
It is estimated that 8 million people will be living in urban centres in the next years.
Uganda’s debt today stands at UGX. 43 trillion, while the National budget stands at UGX. 40.3 trillion, she noted.
She said the debt burden has been growing greatly because of the trade imbalances.
“The capture of state institutions by the incumbent ruling party has exacerbated the problem of failed policies by breeding institutionalisation incompetence and endemic corruption,” she concluded.
