A joint security team on Sunday night arrested suspects in the kidnapping and murder of a NGO worker Nagirinya Mariam and her driver Kitayimbwa Ronald on 28th August 2019.

Sources say three suspects were picked by Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence [CMI] and regular police officers including the man showed in a retrieved CCTV footage.

They are reportedly held at Standard Investigations Unit [SIU] in Kireka.

The images retrieved from an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera showed the assailant wearing a white shirt, a reddish coat and a cap on his head.

Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, without going into specifics invited this reporter for a press conference at Naguru police headquarters where he is expected to divulge details.

Fred Enanga, Police spokesperson, told media at Naguru headquarters: “We have arrested three prime suspects including the man who was driving Maria Nagirinya’s car (the one who was in a red jacket).”

He added: “We are now interrogating them further to get more details.”

Nagirinya, 28, was the project manager at Community Integrated Development Initiative, an NGO while her driver Kitayimbwa, 35, was a boda boda rider who is now survived by a wife and five children.
