A joint security team on Sunday night arrested suspects in the kidnapping and murder of a NGO worker Nagirinya Mariam and her driver Kitayimbwa Ronald on 28th August 2019.
Sources say three suspects were picked by Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence [CMI] and regular police officers including the man showed in a retrieved CCTV footage.
They are reportedly held at Standard Investigations Unit [SIU] in Kireka.
The images retrieved from an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera showed the assailant wearing a white shirt, a reddish coat and a cap on his head.
Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, without going into specifics invited this reporter for a press conference at Naguru police headquarters where he is expected to divulge details.
Fred Enanga, Police spokesperson, told media at Naguru headquarters: “We have arrested three prime suspects including the man who was driving Maria Nagirinya’s car (the one who was in a red jacket).”
He added: “We are now interrogating them further to get more details.”
He said a simcard belonging to Ronald Kitayimbwa who was murdered alongside Nagirinya was also recovered from the suspects.
Nagirinya, 28, was the project manager at Community Integrated Development Initiative, an NGO while her driver Kitayimbwa, 35, was a boda boda rider who is now survived by a wife and five children.
Nagirinya is said to have been abducted from outside her home in Lungujja, Busega Zone, Kampala on last Wednesday night and driven to Mukono District where she and Kitayimbwa are believed to have been murdered from before dumping their bodies in the channel of Nakituruli, off Kayunga Road, Mukono District.
