Oasis Annex Primary school from Arua made it to the final of the East African games after beating the other Ugandan representative Rays of Grace by 4-0 in the semifinal played at St. Constantine Ground in Arusha Tanzania on Wednesday.
Both teams were finalists in the FUFA Primary Schools Football Championship called Odilo.
Calvary Mungufeni scored a brace for the Odilo runners-up in the second half before the leading top scorer in the competition Ceaser Morphat added the third goal to register his fifth goal. Sherif Twaha netted the fourth goal.
Oasis Annex will play Tanzania’s Musumbwe primary school in the final on Saturday 24th August.
“We are proud to be in the final. It wasn’t easy to eliminate our fellow Ugandans. We are now focusing on winning the trophy on Saturday,” said Oasis Annex coach Aga Mawa Mas.
The clash was a repeat of the Odilo Final played two weeks ago at the FUFA Technical centre won by Rays of Grace but this time round; Oasis got the better of their opponents and avenged the 1-0 defeat suffered in the final in Njeru.
Rays of Grace will feel hard done by the absence of their four key players Leonard Kasanya, Talemwa Erisa, Mukisa Dan and Mulema Vicent who are with the Uganda National U-15 Squad in Eritrea for the CECAFA U15 tournament. The youngsters have won all their opening two games so far.
The two primary schools teams (Rays of Grace and Oasis Annex) in Arusha were funded by FUFA to represent Uganda in the competition of the Primary Schools category.
Oasis Annex forward Morphat (5 goals), Calvary Mungufeni (4 goals) and Rays of Grace Monda Zaidi (3 goals) are so far the leading scorers in the competition.
Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games are organised for Secondary schools but the organisers incorporated a category for Primary Schools as well.
