Rwanda Foreign Affairs Minister Amb Richard Sezibera is currently hospitalised in the Kenyan capital Nairobi.
Sezibera went silent on social media for almost a month, totally unlike of him, which fuelled speculation about his state of health.
There were reports claiming the he had been poisoned which were trashed by Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe, Minister of State in Rwanda Foreign Ministry in charge of the East African Community.
edge.ug attempts to get a clear picture of Sezibera’s health status from Amb Nduhungirehe were futile as the minister remained tight-lipped for days.
He only managed to lash at government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo for allegedly sharing “fake news” on Sezibera’s sickness.
“Here is @OfwonoOpondo, Spokesperson of the Government of #Uganda, endorsing vicious #FakeNews from a tabloid owned by the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence. Despicable!” Nduhungirehe tweeted on August 8.
For a month, Sezibera has not appeared in public. His last official visit was on July 11, in London, for a ministerial meeting to prepare for the Commonwealth summit to be held in Kigali in June 2020.
The 55-year-old diplomat was then received by Prince Charles, along with other leaders of the diplomacy of the organization.
Jeune Afrique reported that Sezibera has been hospitalized in Nairobi and is currently recovering, although his health condition is not worrying.
No date has yet been specified for his return to the ministry.
The former Secretary-General of the East African Community (EAC) between 2011 and 2016, former Rwandan presidential envoy for the Great Lakes region, Richard Sezibera succeeded Louise Mushikiwabo, who has embodied Rwandan diplomacy for nearly a decade before becoming Secretary General of La Francophonie.
