Parliament subcommittee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprise (COSASE) has ordered the arrest of former Executive Secretary of the departed Asians Custodian Board, Bernard Tumwesigire.
This was after MPs sitting on the committee received a government seal from Tumwesigire instead of a custodian’s seal.
The Departed Asians Properties Custodian Board (DAPCB) led by Hon. Matia Kasaija and Hon. Betty Amongi, Tuesday appeared before Cosase chaired by Hon. Ibrahim Kasozi to update the committee on the status of the properties under its custody.
This follows a dispute between Kasaija and Tumwesigire, who presented a Custodian Board Stamp instead of a seal, saying it is what he was using since his appointment in 2009.
Hon Kasozi said following the failure by Tumwesigire to abide by his promise to avail the committee with the seal of the Board, only police can now compel him.
“I direct that the Criminal Investigative Officers make a follow up to recover the seal,” Kasozi ordered.
Kasozi also grilled Kasaija on the matter of President Museveni’s brother Gen Salim Saleh’s involvement in the saga.
Kasozi: Why did the Board refuse to relinquish General Salim Saleh of his duties as a Co-opted member of the board, even after he had requested?
Kasaija: I suggest that the question be directed to the former chair of the board for a detailed answer.
Last week, Tumwesigire promised he would hand over the seal to the committee and not to Kasaija who allegedly threatened his life.
Tumwesigire who was sacked with several board documents says he won’t hand over the seal because it is his security and that he reportedly demands Shs13bn.
