People’s Government President Kizza-Besigye, Hon. Betty Muzanira and several FDC and People’s Government officials attending mass at Rwanyondo Catholic Church, in rural Rwanyondo, Nyakishenyi, Rubabo County Rukungiri district.
Mass was celebrated by Fr. Alfred Byarugaba who preached about justice, equality, fairness; saying when people are rights are violated, it’s their duty to struggle to defend them.
There was also a fundraising drive for the foundation of the new church that is to be built, for which Kizza-Besigye laid the foundation. 10M was collected.
Speaking to the congregation, Kizza-Besigye appreciated the efforts of local people to put together resources to build a new church, even when there personal and family incomes are unpleasantly low.
The fundraising efforts were initiated by Rwanyondo Catholic Church catechist who is the curator of the church.
Besigye also thanked the people of Rubabo and particularly Nyakishenyi for embracing change, saying changing the mindset of people Nyakishenyi and Nyarushanje has been a long process.
The two sub counties are the last are remaining sub counties in Rukungiri with some pockets of loyal NRM supporters but during Mass, some NRM supporters surrendered their NRM cards to declare their defection to FDC while many women groups went to church in FDC colours.
