A fourth former royal guard of Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere has died in prison.
Ezakiel Isonderya was among over 190 suspects in prison who were arrested in November 2016 when UPDF led a raid on Mumbere’s royal palace in Kasese town.
Mumbere was arrested with 200 others including his former Acting Prime Minister, Johnson Thembo Kitsumbire who were later released on bail in February 2017.
The rest have been on remand in Kirinya Prison in Jinja District.
Three of the imprisoned guards died in prison. Isonderya, the fourth victim, died on Thursday night at Luzira Prisons Hospital.
His family said in a statement: “The Babinga Clan from Muhungulhu family with deep sorrow announces the death of one of their elder Mzee Isonderya Ezakiel that occurred at Luzira Prisons Hospital. We are not yet sure of the burial, but we shall keep updating you since he was in prison.”
