Police has spoken out on the arrest of pastor Joseph Kabuleta.
A task team of detectives from the Special Investigations Division, arrested the self -styled pastor, and took him into custody, in connection with offensive acts of communication against the person of H.E The President.
According to the preliminary information, the writer repeatedly posted grossly offensive messages, under the “Joseph Kabuleta Weekly Rant Returns,”where he referred to H.E.The President, as “a gambler, thief and liar.
The law under section 25 of the Computer Misuse Act, 2011, criminalises such acts of offensive communication.
“We want to caution all persons who glorify such acts of offensive communication, particularly through social media, that it is public space that is not protected,” police said in a statement.
Therefore any postings that are fabricated and circulated, can easily cause harm, to persons targeted, in the bias-motivated attacks, as well as trigger tension and conflict within the community and the country at large, it added.
“The public is further warned, to stop and think, about what they say on social media, before making statements, whose consequences are serious and punishable by the law.”
“Please be aware that we will continue monitoring comments on social media and any offensive comments, will be investigated.”
