Dr Warren Namara, the former director of Uganda National Aids Control Programme, is the new chairperson of Mbarara University of Science and Technology [MUST] council.
Dr Namara replaces Dr Ben Mbonye whose term of office expired.
Mbonye had chaired the 5th and 6th council serving for eight years.
His successor Namara will chair the council for four years.
His first and second council meetings were on July 3 and July 12, respectively, according to SoftPower news website.
The university is currently at crossroads after staff went on strike accusing the Vice Chancellor Prof Celestino Obua and University Secretary Melchior Byaaruhanga.
In 2016, Uganda fronted Dr. Namara for the post of Commissioner Social Affairs for the African Union Commission but he lost the bid.
