Magistrate goes on leave instead of writing Bajjo bail

Lukwago, Ssewanyana and Bajjo in court

Music and Events Promoter Andrew Mukasa aka Bajjo Friday failed to secure bail after Buganda Road Court Magistrate Stella Amabillis who was supposed to deliver the ruling was reported to be on leave.

Bajjo was sent back on remand at Luzira prison until July 11, 2019.

The trial magistrate who set this very date for ruling was sent on leave before she could make the ruling.

Bajjo in court

Bajjo’s lead Counsel and Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago was upset by this anomaly.

Among the grounds submitted in support of the bail application was that the accused was roughly arrested subjecting him to physical torture thereby sustaining injuries.

According to Lukwago, Bajjo needs scanning and urgent medical attention.

Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana Bwino who was present during the trial said he came back from Cairo Egypt where he had gone to watch African Cup of Nations [AFCON] tournament just to stand with Bajjo.

“…just to stand surety for you but the regime didn’t allow. Stay strong because that’s the country we live in!”

He thanked Lukwago for rendering the necessary legal services to Bajjo.
