Investment State minister Evelyn Anite has responded to Deputy Attorney General Mwesigwa Rukutana’s letter saying she wasn’t asking for his opinion but rather instructing him to apply to court to sack Uganda Telecom Limited [UTL] administrator Bemanya Twebaze.
In his arguments, Rukutana told Anite that she has no supervisory powers over the UTL administrator.
He further reminded Anite of a ruling by the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga saying administration is a court-controlled process and that neither the legislature nor the executive should interfere with.
But Anite in a second letter accused Rukutana of issuing a litany of fundamentally flawed innuendos/opinions.
She told AG Hon William Byaruhanga that she was surprised his deputy interpreted her communication as a request for opinion.
She said this confirms a view that “Bemanya Twebaze is a crooked lawyer and entrenched in Attorney General’s office”.
“It also points to a common view that a cartel in sections of government is keen to have UTL liquidated and sell to themselves the strategic assets of the company and people of Uganda.”
She then wrote to President Museveni explaining the whole matter asking for his immediate intervention.
