Court has Friday ordered Makerere University research fellow Dr Stella Nyanzi to prepare her defence in a case she is accused of harassing President Museveni.
Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate, Gladys Kamasanyu, ruled that Nyanzi has a case to answer.
“The evidence on record shows there’s a Prima facie case established against her,” Kamasanyu ruled.
She told Nyanzi to put in her case saying it is uncontestable that she owns the Facebook page that posted the post/poem in question.
She has been on remand in Luzira prison for allegedly insulting the memory of Museveni’s dead mother Esteri Kokundeka.
Nyanzi told court that she will present five to seven witnesses to defend her.
Her lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde told court his client wanted the state to speed up the investigations, to enable her go through the trial.
Prosecution contends that on September 16, 2018, Dr Nyanzi posted on her Facebook page suggestions deemed obscene against Mr Museveni and his deceased mother.
It is stated that she also repeatedly posted messages to disturb or attempted to disturb the peace, quiet or right to privacy of the President. This is the second time police are accusing Dr Nyanzi on allegations of abusing President Museveni and his family.
Dr Nyanzi is charged with cyber harassment and offensive communication which contravene sections of the Penal Code Act.
On November 9, 2018 Dr Nyanzi declined to apply for bail.
